From the trail

Traveling with High Alpine Adventures has led to two once-in-a-lifetime experiences and memories. While I'm more on the beginner side, there wasn't a moment I felt discouraged from making it to the end. The guidance was personable, knowledgeable, and reassuring throughout the hikes, with a strong understanding of the trails, scenery, and safety. Any route with High Alpine Adventures is bound to be beautiful and a great time.

I'm in pretty good shape, but before this trip I had never done any real mountain backpacking. From the start, the experience felt comfortable and approachable, giving me the confidence to take on an awesome route around Grays and Torreys Peaks. The hike itself was incredible. The views were unreal, the route was challenging without feeling overwhelming, and it ended up being one of those trips you remember for a long time. What really made it easy was how much was handled behind the scenes. The route was planned, food and water were taken care of, the tent and other gear were provided, and I was even set up with a backpack. I basically just had to show up ready to hike. It was the perfect introduction to mountain backpacking and an all-around 10/10 experience. I'd definitely recommend High Alpine Adventures to anyone who wants to get out into the mountains, whether it's your first serious backpacking experience or you're simply looking for a great adventure.

High Alpine Adventures helped me reach my first two fourteeners. We backpacked in the Sawatch Range and summited Mount Belford and Mount Oxford. Throughout the experience, I felt well supported and looked after — from making sure I had enough food and water, to choosing a safe weather window, to providing encouragement the entire way. I couldn't have done it without that guidance. What stood out just as much was the knowledge behind the experience. Along the way, I learned about the mountains, the terrain, and the features around us, which gave me much more context for what I was seeing. That experience gave me the confidence and foundation to keep progressing in the mountains. I later climbed Mount Elbert as my first winter fourteener, and since then I have climbed 23 fourteeners, using much of what I learned on that first Belford/Oxford trip. I've also taken on more technical objectives with High Alpine Adventures, including the Crestones Traverse, tagging Crestone Peak, East Crestone Peak, and Crestone Needle. Strong route finding, sound decision-making, and support throughout the day were incredibly valuable, especially when fatigue started setting in. There were several places where I know I would have struggled to find the correct route on my own. The combination of mountain knowledge, good decision-making, encouragement, and a genuinely fun experience is what has always stood out to me. I've now climbed 23 fourteeners and my journey is far from over, and the experiences and skills I gained early on played a huge role in getting me here. If I were looking for guidance on another hike or scramble, High Alpine Adventures would be an easy choice.
